Goals Without Progress

As January settles in, reflection and goal-setting naturally take center stage. But let's cut to the chase: goal-setting isn't about dreaming; it's about doing. Too many of us stay stuck because we mistake aspirations for action. It's time to challenge that.

 Stop Dreaming, Start Planning

Dreams are great, but without a plan, they're just fantasies. Writing a book might remain an idea until intentional action is taken—talking to authors, learning the craft, and scheduling time to write. The challenge? Turn your dream into a goal by:

  • Defining clear steps.
  • Setting realistic timelines.
  • Getting the resources and support you need.

Reflect with Purpose

Before you set goals, get real about where you are. Reflection isn’t about patting yourself on the back; it’s about identifying gaps. Ask yourself:

  1. What’s my relationship with God like?
  2. How are my family and close relationships?
  3. Am I thriving in my work?
  4. Am I the man I really want to be?
  5. What patterns in my life are keeping me from being all God called me to be?

Review your calendar. Your calendar reveals your priorities. Are you spending time on what matters, or just filling it with noise? Be brutally honest, because where you’ve been sets the foundation for where you’re going.

Own Your Why

Who are you doing this for? If your goals are about meeting someone else’s expectations, you’ll quit when it gets hard. Authenticity matters. Ask:

  • Does this align with who I am?
  • Am I pursuing this for the right reasons?
  • Am I willing to stay intentional, even when it gets tough?

Without clarity on your why, setbacks will derail you. Find your purpose, and let it drive you.

Anticipate Barriers—Then Crush Them

Every goal comes with obstacles. Discouragement? Procrastination? Fear of failure? Name them now, so they don’t catch you off guard. Remember, progress isn’t linear. If you fumble, pick yourself up. This isn’t about perfection; it’s about persistence.

Build Accountability

Here’s the truth: you can’t do this alone. Those who achieve their goals aren’t lone wolves—they’re part of a pack. Crucible groups, men’s retreats and women’s retreats, and coaching provide the accountability and support you need to keep going when it gets hard. Who’s holding you accountable? If no one comes to mind, fix that today.

Start Leading Yourself

Before you lead your family, your team, or your community, you must lead yourself. This means facing your inner dialogue, dismantling people-pleasing tendencies, and stepping into your God-given identity. Crucible retreats will help you do this deep work, breaking free from the lies that keep you stuck.

Take the Next Step

2025 is here. Are you going to let it pass while you stay stuck in the same cycles? Or will you take action? If you’re tired of unmet goals and want to live with purpose, it’s time to reach out. Start with a phone call, a retreat, or a coaching session. Whatever you do, don’t stay where you are.

Stop making excuses. Start making progress.
