Emotional Healing - Can Christians Heal Emotionally? YES
Can Christians Heal Emotionally? It’s a fair question. And it’s a simple answer. Can Christians heal emotionally? Absolutely, even when in doubt. Yes, you can heal, and God will guide you through emotional healing.
Healing is a process and a decision, and completely orchestrated by God. First you have to want it, more than you want to be angry, hurt, depressed, anxious, or whatever pain your going through that is so hard to let go.
The difficult part, is the part that sets us free. Forgiveness. I’ll explain.
In this article, we’ll explore:

- The day after tomorrow
Emotional Pain
Without going into excruciating detail, this life is filled with traumas, heart breaks, devastations, abuses, and terrible disappointments. Emotional pain can come from questions, like “Why is this happening to me? Or, what am I supposed to do?”
In Hebrews 11, we learn about the faith of the patriarchs that suffered traumas, made terrible mistakes, and never lived to see the promise they were given fulfilled. The pain is real and stems from events, relationships, and accidents, and it can feel impossible to heal.
Trials and Tribulations
In James 1 it says, “be thankful for various trials and tribulations for you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect work, so that you will be perfect and complete, not deficient in anything. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1 is the formula for trials and tribulations, and it’s tough so we can take a deep breath.
Let’s break it down. Gratitude for struggles that are a test of faith. That means it’s not punishment, but a circumstance to overcome. Overcoming the trial produces skills to navigate this world and become my best self. If I need some help understanding and need some directions, asking God means it gets done.
Can Christians Heal Emotionally? YES
First you have to want to. Do you want to?
Then you have to believe it. Say it with me, “Can Christians Heal Emotionally? Yes!”
Then you need to step forward and take actions. Your first question is, “How?” It’s a decision and a process. Now you’ve made the decision, take some time to learn the process.
How Can Christians Experience Emotional Healing?
Emotional healing does not usually happen all at once. For Christians, it can be a process of bringing our pain to God, examining what is happening within us, and taking intentional steps toward forgiveness, understanding, and change. Faith does not mean pretending the hurt isn’t there. It means trusting that God can guide us through it.
If you are struggling with emotional pain, consider these steps:
- Acknowledge the pain. Healing begins when we are willing to be honest about what hurts instead of burying or ignoring it.
- Ask God for wisdom. As James 1 reminds us, we can ask God for wisdom when we do not understand what we are experiencing or how to move forward.
- Examine what you believe. Painful experiences can shape our beliefs, values, attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors. Take time to consider whether those things are working together or pulling you in different directions.
- Work toward forgiveness. Forgiveness can be one of the most difficult parts of emotional healing, but holding onto anger and resentment can keep us connected to the very pain we want to escape.
- Take action. Healing requires more than simply wanting things to change. It means making the decision to move forward and taking steps toward greater emotional and spiritual health.
- Don’t go through it alone. Trusted friends, Christian community, pastors, counselors, and others who have walked through their own struggles can provide perspective, encouragement, and support.
So, can Christians heal emotionally? Yes. Healing may take time, and the process may not always be easy, but you do not have to have everything figured out before taking the first step. Ask God for wisdom, be willing to look honestly at what you are carrying, and begin moving toward the hope and healing you are seeking.
Your Spiritual Being
You are a spiritual being in a physical body with a mind the operates your body. Your spiritual being is not made up of flesh and bone, but instead a foundation of beliefs, values, and attitudes which are mostly developed by 7 to 12 years old. Then you have the daily operations of thoughts, feelings, and actions or behaviors.
Emotional pain is when these are out of balance. This is where the process comes. Going back to the events that have caused so much pain. Looking at them through different lenses to understand what is out of balance.
Write down what you believe. Do you disagree with any of those beliefs? What about values, what are your values? Do they all agree with your beliefs? Now your attitudes? When I learned that attitude is everything, I had no idea what that meant. Then I paid more attention to when I had a bad attitude, and I worked to change it. With the right attitude in line with your beliefs and attitudes, you will start to feel hope, and even joy again.
Hurt people, hurt people. The way to overcome is by moving forward.
The Day after Tomorrow
Can Christians Heal Emotionally? Yes, undoubtedly. Then we have to face the day after tomorrow.
That is why it is so important not to go through emotional healing alone, when you don’t have to. The Crucible Project is an organization of men and women who understand what it means to struggle with emotional pain. The initial Crucible weekend is a great first step to learning more about yourself and how to experience emotional healing from the world.
When you believe you can heal emotionally, you will because God will lead the way.

If You or Someone You Know Is Struggling
Henry’s story is also a reminder that we may not always know what someone else is carrying. If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, severe emotional distress, or a mental health crisis, please do not face it alone. In the United States, you can call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and connect with a trained crisis counselor 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can also visit the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline to chat online with a counselor or learn more about available support.
If you are concerned about a friend or loved one, you can also contact 988 for guidance and support. Reaching out, starting a conversation, and helping someone connect with appropriate support can matter more than you realize.
Please, don’t hesitate. If someone is on your heart, reach out. Make the call. Start the conversation. You may think you can do it tomorrow or wait for a better time, but sometimes time is a luxury we simply don’t have.
